Depends on the intended purpose of your rod/reel combo. For cranking, the Daiwa alphas is awesome but for less money and only a slight gain in weight, the Sol is much easier to find and has 7 bearings and is exactly the same size, shape, etc... For throwing a spinnerbait, pitching or flipping, the Shimano 50 wins out because of it's weight (5.9 oz) and retrieve ratio (6.2 to 1). For these applications you need speed and the light weight reduces fatigue after a day of fishing. At 7.4 oz, the Sol is not a "heavyweight" by any stretch of the imagination and it's $30 cheaper than the Shimano! The Sol's gear ratio (5.8 to 1) is the limiting factor here. Both reels were designed for "finesse" fishing but both are sturdy enough for any type of bass fishing, they're a glimpse into the future of reels! Have fun either way you go!
