How smart is your bass fishing lure?

Winter fishing, when compared with summer fishing is an exciting experience with different bass fishing lures. Ice fishing though, is a very different game that requires a smarter mindset. You need a variety of bass fishing lures to entice the shy but hungry bass to take your bait.

The first danger of ice- fishing with a buddy is of falling through suddenly breaking ice. Prepare for this eventuality by having long poles to lay across and climb out. Temperatures will be below freezing, so have your supplies of poncho, waterproof matches, candles, knives, bandages, bouillon cubes, cocoa and soup securely packed up in waterproof packing in a metal can. So keep your bass fishing lures ready at hand in case the ice-fishing hole freezes over, use the inexpensive denatured alcohol instead of antifreeze to avoid spooking the fish.

Ice fishing with bass fishing lures fetches bigger catches especially when you use tiny ice spoons, ice flies, No.10 or12 gold hooks. Gall worms, mousies, mealworms, crane fly larvae, wax worms or maggots work well when you tip them and fish with slight trembling movements.

You can use bass fishing lures for bluegills, crappies trout, yellow perch, pickerel, pike, walleyes and muskies with equal effect in the winter months. Live minnows, jiggling rapalas, Hopkins, Swedish pimples, gay blades, wet flies, nymphs, spinners, jiggling spoons, even tiny strips of meat are ideal for reeling in the big fish.
